JTF Troops Destroy ISWAP Logistics Base, Drones, Underground Storage

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have dismantled multiple insurgent camps and neutralized logistical hubs in the Timbuktu Triangle as part of the ongoing “Operation DESERT SANITY.”

The offensive, conducted on Sunday, January 18, 2026, targeted high-profile terrorist hideouts in Chilaria, Garin Faruk, and Abirma. The operation was bolstered by the Air Component of the task force, which provided persistent Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) to track enemy movements and prevent reinforcements.

Recovery of Arms and Logistics

During the intelligence-led raid, troops uncovered a significant cache of equipment and supplies used by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters. The recovered items include:

  • Weaponry: Five AK-47 magazines, several rounds of 7.62mm special and NATO ammunition, and links of 12.7mm heavy ammunition.
  • Communications: Baofeng radios and mobile phones.
  • Logistics: A pickup truck, diesel-powered grinding machines, and a Petroleum and Oil Lubricant (POL) dump.
  • Supplies: Large quantities of medical supplies, bags of grains, and hidden underground storage facilities.

Persistence Amidst Drone Attacks

Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba in a statement shared with Channel Network Afrique, CNA News confirmed that the advancing troops encountered resistance via armed drone attacks launched by the terrorists at midday and again in the evening.

Despite these aerial provocations, the troops repelled both attempts, forcing the insurgents to retreat and maintaining control of the area. No casualties among the troops were reported, and morale remains high as they continue to dominate the sector.

Commitment to Stability

While the security situation in the area is currently assessed as calm but unpredictable, the Military High Command has reaffirmed its commitment to the total elimination of terrorist threats.

”The operations will continue as troops remain resolute in their mission to protect civilians and restore lasting peace to the North East,” the statement concluded.
