Navy Intercepts 44,000 Liters of Illegal Fuel in Rivers, Arrests Eight
Personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER have intercepted two wooden boats carrying approximately 44,000 liters of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Rivers State.
The operation, conducted under the auspices of Operation DELTA SENTINEL, took place in the Degema, Ogbogoro, and Ogbologo areas. In addition to the seized fuel, naval operatives arrested eight suspects linked to the illicit consignment.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Director of Naval Information, Captain AA Folorunsho, the raid was triggered by credible intelligence regarding oil theft activities in the region. While eight individuals were apprehended, several armed accomplices reportedly fled the scene as the naval patrol team approached.
The Nigerian Navy confirmed that the suspects and the recovered petroleum products will be handed over to relevant agencies for investigation and prosecution.
Captain Folorunsho emphasized that the Service remains committed to “safeguarding Nigeria’s critical national assets” through increased patrol frequency and inter-agency cooperation.
