Navy Rescues 7, Search for Missing Continues
Personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH rescued seven people on Sunday following a boat collision in the Ogboinbiri waterways, located in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The incident involved a collision between a Tantita patrol boat and a wooden market boat. According to a statement released on March 22 by Navy Captain AA Folorunsho, Director of Naval Information, the Navy launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation immediately after receiving a distress call.
”The timely response led to the rescue of the victims, who were promptly evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent medical attention,” the statement read.
While seven individuals have been safely recovered, the Navy confirmed that search efforts are still ongoing to locate other persons reported missing following the accident.
The rescue operation aligns with the strategic mandate of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, which emphasizes the protection of lives alongside traditional maritime security.
This latest intervention adds to a series of successful SAR missions conducted by the Nigerian Navy over the past six months.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a “responsive and people-oriented” force, assuring the public of its readiness to deploy assets for maritime emergencies in accordance with global best practices.
