TMSG Criticises Atiku Over Comments On Tinubu Policies, Says He Is ‘Out of Touch’
The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over remarks suggesting he would reverse the policies of President Bola Tinubu if elected in 2027, describing his position as disconnected from Nigeria’s political and economic realities.
Atiku, who spoke in a recent television interview, had indicated that he would undo key decisions of the current administration if given the mandate in the next presidential election.
Reacting in a statement signed by its Chairman, Emeka Nwankpa, and Secretary, Dapo Okubanjo, the group questioned whether the former vice president, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), intended to return the country to what it described as the era of fuel subsidy and multiple foreign exchange rates.
TMSG argued that recent policy reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration had yielded positive outcomes, citing endorsements from international institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
The group expressed surprise at Atiku’s comments, noting that he had previously supported similar reforms, including subsidy removal and foreign exchange harmonisation during his 2023 presidential campaign.
The group also cited ongoing initiatives of the current administration, including tax reforms, the student loan scheme, and consumer credit programmes, as well as infrastructure projects across the country, questioning whether Atiku would reverse these measures if elected.
The group further criticised the former vice president’s stance on governance, alleging inconsistency with his past positions and describing his remarks as dismissive of policies it claimed had received positive feedback from many Nigerians.
TMSG urged citizens to support the continuation of current reforms, warning against what it described as attempts to reverse progress made under the Tinubu administration.
