Don’t Rush Into Business: AVM Ademuwagun Warns Retiring NAF Personnel

The Commandant of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Air Vice Marshal Adeniran Ademuwagun, has charged retiring Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) to maintain the military’s high standards of discipline as they transition into civilian life.

​According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations, Air Force Institute of Technology – Kaduna, Wing Commander, Bassey Ibiang Okon and made available to Channel Network Afrique, CNA, indicates that the Commandant gave the charge during a send-off ceremony held in Kaduna for 13 SNCOs comprising one Air Warrant Officer and 12 Master Warrant Officers who are retiring after 35 years of meritorious service.
​Addressing the retirees, who enlisted in the Service between 1991 and 1992, AVM Ademuwagun praised their dedicated contributions to national security and territorial integrity. He noted that their service often came at a significant personal cost to their families.
​”Maintain the discipline, courage, and commitment you exhibited while in Service by becoming role models and ambassadors of the military profession in your communities,” AVM Ademuwagun stated.
​The Commandant also extended his gratitude to the families of the personnel for “maintaining the home front” during their spouses’ long deployments.
​Offering practical advice for the next chapter of their lives, AVM Ademuwagun cautioned the retirees against making hasty financial decisions. He urged them to prioritize their families and avoid spending their retirement allowances on “frivolities.”
​”Do not worry about retirement and do not go into business immediately,” he advised. “Wait for at least one year and plan on what to do before embarking on any venture.”
​The Deputy Commandant of AFIT, Air Vice Marshal Osinachi Ubadike, echoed these sentiments, describing retirement as a milestone of joy. He encouraged the veterans to remain physically and mentally engaged.
​”Do not just relax at home, but find a way to make yourselves active to remain healthy,” AVM Ubadike said. He expressed confidence that the skills and discipline acquired during their careers would ensure a prosperous future.
​Responding on behalf of the retirees, Air Warrant Officer Florence Alonge thanked the Nigerian Air Force and the AFIT leadership for the opportunity to serve and for the honor of the send-off ceremony.
​”This gesture will remain in our memories for the rest of our lives,” she said.
