AFCRD: FG Calls For Community Synergy To Tackle Terrorism

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to boosting the welfare and operational capacity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to ensure the effective discharge of their constitutional duties.

​The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), disclosed this on Tuesday night during the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) Regimental Dinner Night held at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess in Abuja.

​Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister described the annual event as a vital part of Nigeria’s military heritage. He noted that the occasion serves the dual purpose of celebrating the resilience of serving personnel and honoring those who died in defense of the nation.

​”The peace and security enjoyed by the nation are products of the vigilance, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication of our troops,” the Minister stated. He further assured the military that the presidency remains resolute in providing adequate logistics support and modern equipment to confront evolving asymmetric threats.

​In his welcome remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, highlighted the significance of the regimental dinner as a tradition that fosters discipline and camaraderie. He commended troops across various theaters of operation for their gallantry, noting that their conduct has been instrumental in restoring public confidence in the military.

​General Oluyede also advocated for a “whole-of-society” approach to national security. He emphasized that sustained collaboration between the military, other security agencies, and local communities is essential to defeating terrorism and protecting Nigeria’s democracy.

​The evening concluded with the presentation of awards and medals to several senior officers. The recipients were recognized for exceptional leadership, meritorious service, and significant contributions to national security.

​The event was attended by top government officials, senior military brass, and families of fallen heroes.
