AFIT to Integrate AI and Robotics into Undergraduate Training – AVM Ademuwagun
The Commandant of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) AK Ademuwagun, has announced plans to integrate artificial intelligence, robotics, and modern systems into the institution’s undergraduate curriculum.
The announcement was made during an interactive session with students ahead of their semester examinations. According to a statement released by the Director of Public Relations, Wing Commander Bassey Ibiang Okon, the initiative aims to produce graduates capable of defining future technological landscapes through mission-critical innovation.
Focus on Research and Industry Synergy
AVM Ademuwagun emphasized that the Institute is shifting toward a research-heavy agenda. To support this, AFIT intends to partner with relevant global organizations to provide world-class training that aligns with modern socio-economic realities.
The Commandant further noted that the Institute is securing “symbiotic relationships” with key industry stakeholders to ensure students land internships at top-tier companies. “It is not necessarily the best idea that produces change, but the availability of the medium to take it to the next level,” Ademuwagun stated, highlighting the importance of industry exposure.
Student Welfare and Academic Integrity
Addressing the upcoming exams, the Commandant urged students to prepare diligently and maintain self-confidence. He cautioned against negative influences and encouraged a culture of transparency where students ask “pertinent questions” regarding their academic goals.
The session also touched on health and safety:
- Medical Facilities: The Commandant confirmed that the Institute’s hospital is fully equipped with seasoned medical professionals.
- Emergency Response: An ambulance has been placed on 24-hour standby for student emergencies.
- Safety Warning: Students were strictly advised to utilize the campus hospital rather than patronizing local pharmacies for medical needs.
Strengthening Student-Staff Relations
The interactive session—attended by the Provost, Professor Auwal Kasim, the Registrar, Air Commodore I Shehu, and various Deans—was met with enthusiasm by the student body. Students used the forum to clarify academic policies and requested more frequent interfaces with the school leadership to foster a robust campus community.
