CAC Strips 400,000 Inactive Firms Of Registration In Accountability Sweep
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has officially deregistered over 400,000 companies as part of a major crackdown on inactive entities.
The move is aimed at sanitizing the national database and enforcing stricter corporate accountability across Nigeria.
The Registrar-General, Ishaq Magaji, announced the mass delisting during a commemorative walk in Abuja marking the Commission’s 35th anniversary.
He emphasized that the purge is a critical step in ensuring that only viable, compliant businesses remain on the official register.
A Digital Transformation
During the announcement, Magaji highlighted the CAC’s transition into a fully digital, 24/7 service provider.
The Commission is currently the only government agency in Nigeria to offer an entirely online business registration suite.
The Registrar-General also pointed to the Beneficial Ownership Register as a cornerstone of the current reform agenda. This initiative is designed to pull back the curtain on corporate structures, identifying the individuals who truly own and control businesses in Nigeria.
In a bid to bolster the local economy, the CAC has strengthened its ties with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).
Looking ahead to 2026, the CAC plans to invest heavily in its internal human capital. Magaji revealed plans to establish a CAC-managed hospital, alongside a refreshed welfare package and continuous training programs to ensure the workforce can keep pace with the Commission’s rapid modernization.
