COAS Visits 6 Division, Vows To Prioritize Troop Welfare, Secure Oil Assets

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed that the welfare of personnel remains a top priority under his leadership.
​The Army Chief gave this assurance during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of the 6 Division in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he addressed troops at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground.
​Focus on Personnel Welfare
​General Shaibu stated that his nationwide tour of military formations is designed to provide firsthand insight into the operational readiness of units and the specific challenges facing soldiers. He emphasized that deliberate measures are being implemented to improve the living and working conditions of officers, soldiers, and their families.
​”I place a high premium on the welfare of our personnel,” the COAS said, noting that addressing these needs is essential to maintaining a motivated force.
​Mandate in the Niger Delta
​Beyond welfare, the COAS issued a clear operational directive regarding the Niger Delta Region (NDR). He charged the troops to remain professional and disciplined while intensifying security operations to protect critical national infrastructure.
​Specifically, General Shaibu called for sustained efforts to ensure an increase in national oil production by curbing illegalities and securing the environment for legitimate economic activities.
​Operational Briefing and Infrastructure
​Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, briefed the COAS on the Division’s ongoing activities and its successes in the region. Following the briefing, the COAS inspected ongoing infrastructure projects within the Port Harcourt Barracks to assess the progress of developmental works.
​The visit concluded with a symbolic tree-planting exercise by the COAS and Principal Staff Officers, followed by an interactive session where the Army Chief engaged directly with troops to discuss their concerns and reinforce his command philosophy.
