FRSC Recovers Stolen Vehicle In Ebonyi 11 Years After
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a Toyota Camry that was reported stolen in 2015, following a verification exercise at the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) desk in Ebonyi State.
The recovery occurred on March 27, 2026, ending an 11-year search for the vehicle, which was originally snatched from its owner, Mr. Adeka Emmanuel Akoji, in Benue State on August 13, 2015.
The breakthrough began on March 24, when an official from the Board of Internal Revenue presented documents for the vehicle’s registration. During a routine check, the NVIS Desk Officer detected discrepancies in the car’s history. System records revealed the vehicle was still registered to Mr. Akoji, who confirmed via telephone that the car had been missing for over a decade.
According to a statement signed by the Acting Corps Public Education Officer, Corps Commander Felicia Kalu, the vehicle’s identity had been altered. While it originally bore the registration number MKD659AG, it had been re-registered with a new plate, NKE500AE, in an attempt to bypass security checks.
Following the discovery, the FRSC alerted the Nigeria Police Force. Operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Abakaliki intercepted and recovered the vehicle at approximately 1:50 PM on Friday.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed praised the synergy between the FRSC and the Police, noting that the recovery highlights the effectiveness of the NVIS platform in tracking stolen property and enhancing national security.
The FRSC has urged the public to utilize the NVIS database to verify the status of any vehicle before purchase or registration to avoid legal complications.
