FRSC Recovers Suspected Stolen Vehicle In Ekiti Using NVIS Platform.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a suspected stolen vehicle in Ekiti State through its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS), underscoring its operational efficiency and use of technology in combating vehicle related crimes.
The recovery, which occurred on March 23, 2026, followed routine manual uploads at the NVIS Desk Office in Ado Ekiti.
The process exposed irregularities in vehicle details submitted by a Motor Vehicle Officer from Emure Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, a Deputy Corps Commander, suspicion was raised when the chassis number did not align with the manufacturer’s standard for a 2006 Toyota Camry model.
Acting on the discrepancy, the NVIS Desk Officer corrected the anomaly and conducted a database check, which revealed that the vehicle matched records of one reported stolen two years earlier. The original owner was subsequently contacted and confirmed the theft.
Following the discovery, the State Licensing Officer and Sector Commander were briefed, and efforts were made to invite the suspect for verification. When the suspect failed to comply, the matter was handed over to the Nigeria Police.
Acting on intelligence, police officers from Irewolede Police Station in Ilorin recovered the vehicle on March 31, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. in Emure Ekiti.
The FRSC said the development highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and the importance of the NVIS database in protecting vehicle ownership records nationwide.
The Corps reiterated its commitment to tackling vehicle related fraud and advised the public to ensure proper documentation and verification of vehicle details to avoid legal issues.
It assured of efforts to promoting road safety, strengthening national security, and protecting citizens through intelligence driven operations and enforcement strategies.
