Bala-Led ADC Storms INEC HQ, Demands Compliance with Court of Appeal Order
Placards waving and voices raised in unison, this was the scene outside the INEC Headquarters as members of the Kachukwu led African Democratic Congress took to the streets of Abuja, staging a peaceful protest demanding the commission to respect a recent Court of Appeal ruling or face the legal consequences.
Led by the Special Adviser on Strategy to the ADC Chairman, Dr. Abimiku Monday, the party is calling out what it describes as institutional impunity.
The bone of contention is a March 12th ruling by the Court of Appeal which ordered all parties to maintain the status quo regarding a pending legal battle, but the Kachukwu led ADC claims INEC is simply looking the other way.
He said they have been patient as a formal notice was served since March 15th and a follow-up warning on March 27th as time is no longer on its side.
The representative of INEC Chairman, Mohammed Hamma appealed to the protesters to sheath their swords as the commission is looking into their complaint.
The protesters ended the rally with a clear three-point demand which include, immediate compliance with the court order, full restoration of the status quo, and an end to any actions that undermine the judiciary.
