NCSCN Backs INEC, Rejects Attacks Over ADC Leadership Dispute.

The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has expressed support for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), rejecting what it described as unwarranted attacks on the commission’s integrity.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the NCSCN Executive Director, Blessing Akinlosotu passed a vote of confidence in the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, saying the commission acted within the law in the leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He noted that INEC’s decision to maintain the status quo followed a Court of Appeal ruling which dismissed an appeal filed by a faction led by Senator David Mark.

The Group further raised concerns over alleged plans to mobilise civil society groups for protests against INEC, warning that such actions could undermine democratic institutions.

The NCSCN advised the Davis Mark led ADC faction to return to the trial court to resolve the dispute, rather than pursue political pressure.
